Bembe man standing with arm at sides holding a large knife in right and cylindrical object in left; decoratively carved stomach; ivory inset eyes. The small figure is impressively naturalistic from the coiffure to the toes. The figure represents an ancestor whose identity is indicated by his hairstyle, the intricate pattern of scars on his torso, and the objects he holds. The large feet symbolize the stability and upright character of the ancestor and small pieces of inlaid ivory for the eyes enhance the figure's power. It features a smooth redish-brown patina.
