Aduma masks are characterized by their flat surface, curved brow, domed foreheads, an angular nose, and small openings for eyes. The mouth is often shaped like this example, minimal or non existant. Like other Gabonese masks such as the Goloa, Aduma masks are often painted in four sections, alternating light and dark pigment. This small maskettes was worn during initiation ceremonies. This particular exampe with red pigment shows good age and wear.
